Early Decisions

I've come to some important parts of the World Building for my sci-fi story. At this point I've got two decisions to make, one concerning the world, and another concerning the characters.
The first thing I need to establish is a large set of names for Megacorporations, in order to replace the placeholders that I've used in the earlier stages of my work.
The next thing is something that I'd like to ask my readers(Both facebook, and at Askatechpriest). Right now I've got the plot set up, but now I need to establish a cast of main characters. There's two ways I can go about with this. Either I go with a set of 6 Main Characters(Which will be stressful for me), or I go with a cast of 4 main characters with supporting Redshirts.
For people who aren't familiar with TVTropes, Redshirts are generic characters who are often killed-off for the explicit purpose of revealing to the reader how dangerous a situation is. With my storyline, it makes sense that the Redshirts would be unmanned drones.

You know you're getting serious about world building for a story, when your dreams actually take place in the world you're working on. I spent all of yesterday thinking about a bunch of complex rules for a Speculative Fiction story, which I'm still writing right now.

It's going to be a Cyberpunk world that focuses on disparity between nations that have varying degrees of development. Much of humans in first world countries have taken up heavy modifications(Mostly things that add convenience, but specializations exist in the professional world), which gives them inhuman appearances. I mostly intend to portray the modified humans as being alien to most normal humans, indifferent and laid back to an extreme. It'll almost be like the Eldar from warhammer with their typical mindsets(Most might have a superiority complex, or believe that they are a superior species. Others are more human in how they think, but still come across as alien in their mannerisms.)

The stories I'm actually writing focus on a group of US Marines who get stationed in arabic countries, where they can't fit in with people who still hold onto their traditions. The soldiers are radically different from the people they're trying to protect, with many being entirely eldritch in appearance and manners.

I plan on taking classes on Arabic history and culture, while also doing interviews with various military folk to try and figure out how best to portray them. This should be a fun project for me to work on.

I'll work on getting character sheets up later for some of the men in the story. It will be so much fun to create such a colorful crowd of peoples, and to keep them up right beside ordinary humans. If anyone reading this blog wants to take suggestions for names and concepts, I'll be happy to answer your comments or include references to reader-made characters in the story.

New Characters, and a Renewing of Old

New Characters, and a Renewing of Old

It probably shouldn't surprise anyone that I spend a lot of time doing RP, and DnD. Today I decided to completely renew one of my character sheets. That means a total wipe of the character's description page, with the addition of a new one.

Tali' Jonas, becomes Miluiel Malthenniel. Character concept is shifting over from a half-elf owning a gun store, to one disguised as a Blood Elf for the sake of protecting herself from crime syndicates. She's still a gunslinger, and the character also still has prosthetic legs. No retcons in that department. I'm going to be toning down the number of guns though...

New Pictures! Courtesy of an artist named Rick Moony! More details will come in about the character later, as I update her character sheet.

In other news, I'm going to be setting up a replacement character for my Monk!(Details later!). The DM of my current campaign gave me permission to do a Merfolk character this time around, so I'm going to be rolling with any merfolk concept. I'm thinking either a Cleric, or a Paladin..

Welcome to my blog!

Hello friends, family, and professor! For any future reference, this will be my personal blog used for answering questions from just about anyone, and to host some of my more ridiculous projects. Like for example, I might post screenshots from various FTB Builds, or include WIP Formulas from my attempts at defining the velocity of a car using only paralax in human vision.

Welcome to Ask a Techpriest! If you enjoy Tech and science, with a bunch of opportunity for asking questions, then this is the blog for you!
